Born in 1973 in Oviedo, Damián Hernández begann his musical studies at the age of 7 in the Choir School of Covadonga with Fernando Menéndez. Later he continued his education at the Schola Cantorum in León where he wan the first prize at the Conservatory with Ma Jesús Ayala. He moved to Barcelona to go further with his studies at L’Escola de Música de Barcelona with Albert Atenelle, obtaining the “DEGREE OF LICENCIATE IN PIANOFORTE PLAYING” at the Guildhall School of Music in London. He also received further inspiration from Imre Rohmann (Mozarteum University) and Ferenc Rados (Alcalá de Henares University).
He has received advices from J. Achúcarro, Melvyn Tan, T. Barto, M. Carra, E. Fischer, Ma J. Pires, F. Jaime Pantín, B. Uribe, J. L. Prats, J. Colom, J. R. Méndez, P. Badura-Skoda etc… He has been awarded in many competitions, among others: 1st Prize 10th Mostra de Música Jove de la Generalitat de Cataluña (Barcelona and 2nd Prize 7th Piano Competition Princess Cristina (Madrid).
Damián Hernández has performed with the Galician Chamber Orchestra (Mozart n.12), Venstpills- Latvia Symphonic Orchestra (Grieg), León City Symphonic Orchestra (Scriabin 2002- 2nd Brahms 2008), Oviedo City Symphonic Orchestra (Mozart n.27) Gijón Symphonic Orchestra (1st Chopin) Gaia Festival Orchestra (5. Beethoven) and recently J.O.L (Rachmaninoff 2nd).
His discography comprises three CDs; voice and piano with the soprano Y olanda Montoussé, viola and piano with Luís Muñiz and clarinet and piano with Carlos Cassadó. His recordings have received great acclaim by the press: He is an excellent pianist (…) (The Strad) and “The clarinet” refers to him as accomplished and perfect collaborator.
Damián Hernández is also a sought after chamber musician. Her partners are A. Vassiliev, M. Carulli, O. Lev, RAI Soloists, A.L. Quintana, R. Canetti, A. Saiote, E. Aubier, Natalia Lomeiko and Yuri Zishlin. As a regular project he plays with the violinist Héctor Corpus and the cellist Juan Carlos Cadenas in a steady piano trio since 2009 and with his wife as four hands duet (88/4).
Currently he works as a piano teacher at the Music and Dance Conservatory in Gijón and collaborates as a repertorist with the Postgraduate courses at the Oviedo University.
