He was born in Oviedo where he started his musical studies being awarded later with a scholarship by the Superior Conservatory of Music in Madrid on several courses with A. León Ara. He studied violin and chamber music in Paris with Sándor Vegh and in Germany with E. Pándula, giving recitals on both countries.
Teaching and performing during all his life, José Ramón is a former teacher at the Superior Conservatory of music of Bilbao, and Superior Conservatory of music of Oviedo. He divided his time teaching and performing chamber music, and is a founder member of the “Numen Quartet”, which has performed in practically every cities in Spain, and has recorded frequently for the Spanish national radio and television.
He has also performed with the quartets all over Europe, including Belgium, France, Germany, and Portugal.
He was the lead violin of “Solistes of Catalunya” orchestra, full of important musicians such as Gerard Claret, Jaime Francesch, Aurelio Vila, Pedro Busquests, Anna Baget, etc., and conducted by Xavier Güell.
Always involved into the contemporary music, José Ramón premiered works from R. Barce, T. Marco, C. Bernaola, C. Halffter, J.R. Encinar. And he was conducted by Joan Guinjoan being de leader of the “Diabolus in Música” orchestra.
He was the co founder of the Conservatory of music of Vilaseca-Salou (Tarragona), receiving a recognition by the Ministry of Education and Culture. At the same time, he founds with his quartet Numen, the prestigious “International Music Festival of Cambrils-Salou”.
When he returned to his hometown, he founded the “Astur Quartet” premiering many pieces for the “Music Festival of Oviedo University”.
He was a member of the Symphonic Orchestra of Asturias (O.S.A.) from 1981-87.
Being Principal violinist and help of Leader of the Symphonic Orchestra of Asturias the following Prizes were granted to him:
* PRIZE “Pablo Iglesias” to the Musical Merit (1983)
* GOLD MEDAL to the Merit in the Fine Arts (1986).
Taken by his love to the education, it’s founds the Orchestra of Chamber “Arché”, where there has passed and formed most of young instrumentalists, principally of strings, from Asturias in the last years.
He gives dozens of concert for students in schools around Spain (Cataluña, Andalucía, Extremadura, etc.) and especially in Asturias with the support of the Government.
He has developed an important work as a pedagogue in the Conservatory and in many courses. Among his pupils there are teachers, orchestra musicians, international performers in chamber music, all around Europe and the U.S.
He is also the founder and director of the International Music Courses and the International Violin, Viola and Cello Competition “Villa de Llanes”, in Asturias-Spain. Web: www.llanesmusica.com
