1st Eliminatory Round

In this round each candidate will perform:

a) J. S. Bach: first 2 movements of one of Bach’s sonatas for solo violin BWV 1001-1003-1005 or the “Chaconne” from Partita Nr. 2 BWV 1004.

b) L. v. Beethoven: first movement of one of his ten sonatas for violin and piano.

b) W. A. Mozart: The first movement with cadence of  one of his 5 violin concertos K.207, K.211, K.216, K.218, K.219.

2nd Final Round

In this round each candidate will perform:

a) One of the following pieces:

  • E. Ysaÿe, Poème Èlégiaque
  • C. Saint-Saëns, Caprice Op 52, no. 6, d´apres l´etude en forme de Valse Op 52, no. 6, arranged by E. Ysaÿe
  • H. Vieniawski, Variations on an original theme Op. 15
  • P. de Sarasate, Introduction et fandango Op. 40.

b) First movement with cadence (just in case it has a cadence) of a free choice concerto from L. v. Beethoven until our days.

c) Required Spanish work “Special Prize José Ramón Hevia“:

  • Pablo de Sarasate: “Serenata Andaluza” Op. 28
  • Every contestant should bring their own accompanying pianist. The pianists suggested by the organization in this website can be contacted by the candidates.
  • All pieces must be performed by heart, except the sonatas for violin and piano.
  • Every candidate will have the chance to have a rehearsal with their pianist one day before the rounds. The lenght of the rehearsal will depend on the number of candidates and on the pianist´s availability.
