10TH INTERNATIONAL VIOLA - CELLO COMPETITION “VILLA DE LLANES”
Viola:
Two trials will be held:
1ª) Preliminary stage.
At this first stage, the following works will be played:
a) Prelude and Allemande from one of the suites no. 4, 5 or 6 for viola only (original for violoncello), by J.S.Bach; or Chacone for viola only by J.S.Bach; or two movements from one of the suites for viola only by M.Reger.
b) One caprice at the contestant’s choice by: Campagnoli, Paganini or Hoffmeister.
c) First movement of the “Arpeggione” sonata by F. Schubert.
2ª) Final stage.
At this stage, the following works will be played:
a) Obligatory work: Concertstück by G. Enesco
b) Second movement from one of the following sonatas: no. 1 in F minor or no. 2 in E Mayor Op. 120 by J. Brahms or First movement of the sonata Op. 147 by D. Shostakovich or First movement of the sonata by Rebecca Clarke.
c) First movement of the concert by B. Bartok or W. Walton , with cadenza or Der Schwanendreher by P. Hindemith.
Violoncello:
Two trials will be held:
1ª) Preliminary stage.
At this first stage, the following works will be played:
a) Prelude and sarabanda from one of the Suites no. 4, 5 or 6 by J. S. Bach
b) One of the studies 15, 18, 20 y 28 by D. Popper
c) First movement of the “Arpeggione” sonata by F. Schubert
2ª) Final stage.
At this stage, the following works will be played:
a) Obligatory work: First movement of suite for violoncello only by G. Cassado
b) Second movement of one of the following sonatas:
- F mayor, Op.99 by J. Brahms
- Or F mayor Op.6 by R. Strauss
c) First movement, with cadenza, to be chosen among the concerts by:
- Fr. J. Haydn, C mayor or D mayor (original),
- L. Boccherini, B mayor (original),
- Or first movement of A. Dvorak, in B minor
- Or P. Tchaikovsky Rococo Variations
· Every contestant will bring their own accompanying pianist.
· Every work will be played by heart, except the sonatas with piano.
